2023 Winter Beneficiaries

Bethel Recreation Department
Bethel Rec Department organizes and manages youth sport programs and recreational activities for both children and adults in the town of Bethel and the surrounding area. They’ve provided a popular community ice skating rink this winter, which has been supported and tended by a crew of volunteers. Director Mary Scanlon shared that, “the rink is financially supported in part by the town of Bethel but the majority of its operational budget is solely based on generous donations from individuals and local businesses. The rink is maintained 100% by a volunteer team from the community. The popularity and use of the rink in this it’s first year far exceeds our expectations.  On any given day you will find adults, children, families and friends skating and having fun together.”

Chisholm Ski Club
“The Club supports the River Valley Community by providing skiing opportunities for its youth, by cooperating with and enhancing Black Mountain’s efforts, and by providing an economic boost to the area’s restaurants and motels.” (text taken from the group’s website). The group has been an institution in the River Valley for decades, with an army of loyal and longtime volunteers helping to build a love for skiing in generation after generation of local youth. “Funding from the Second Nature Adventure Challenge will help us continue to connect River Valley youth to skiing and snowboarding opportunities,” said board member Roger Arsenault.
