2019-05-06The Swift River Walking Trail is located within the river valley on the Rumford side of the bridge separating the two towns. You can enter the trail through the Hosmer Feild Complex entrance or through a road off to the left when leaving the High School. Our Walking For Fitness class opted to take the route that started at the road off of the High School, if you go this route you will also pass the skate park and the tennis courts. The start of the tail currently has many tree stumps as the town prepares to move the trail further from the Swift River. This is happening due to the river undercutting the land the paved trail sits on and is causing it to sag. The further the you go into the trail the more you are shielded from the sun due to the thick foliage above. You will walk passed a cement building which used to be used as a GeoCash site but now is not, you will also go over a wooden bridge. The entire trail is a half mile but is a whole mile round trip! It is also suitable for anyone of any fitness ability or anyone who has walking limitations as the entire trail is paved. Something that is worth noting is that the trail is flooded roughly half way through due to snow melt, other than that, a perfect trail for anyone!
